Implementing Positive Change
In the name of God, the Gracious, the Merciful
Have We not uplifted your heart for you* relieved you of the burden* which weighed so heavily on your back,* and elevated your renown for you?* So, indeed with hardship comes ease* Surely with ˹that˺ hardship comes ˹more˺ ease* So once you have fulfilled ˹your duty˺, strive ˹in devotion˺,* turning to your Lord ˹alone˺ with hope*

Introduction to Business Change:

  • The business environment is constantly changing, and companies must be willing to move with the times to remain competitive.
  • The pandemic has highlighted the need for organizations to be agile and pivot quickly to adapt to new opportunities.
  • In this article, we will explore the different types of change that companies may go through, the benefits they offer, and how to overcome resistance to change within your organization.

Types of Business Change

Developmental

Developmental change is focused on enhancing existing processes or procedures within a business. This type of change is typically small and incremental, driven by internal cost pressures or technological advancements. Examples include upgrading a payroll system or revising a marketing strategy. The benefits of developmental change include improved efficiency. However, it’s important to provide employees with the necessary training and support to make the transition smoothly.

Transitional

Transitional change involves replacing primary methods with new ones. Examples include adopting a new ERP system or automating a manual production line. The goal of these changes is typically to stay competitive in the marketplace. However, it may require the business to reconsider its processes, functions, relationships, and culture. Senior leadership and management must proceed with caution to minimize doubt, insecurity, and fear among employees.

Transformational

Transformational change represents a complete overhaul of a business. Examples include diversifying product offerings or entering new markets. While this type of change can be disruptive, it also presents the greatest potential for growth and success.

Why Business Change?

Change is essential for a business to stay competitive and adapt to new opportunities. The benefits of change include increased efficiency, competitiveness, and resilience. However, employees may be resistant to change. It’s essential to understand and address their concerns. As we move forward, we must also be mindful of current trends, such as climate change and carbon emissions, as they may present new opportunities for growth.
