In December 1993, I started working with Research and Consulting House (REACH) in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, where I have had the opportunity to work with lots of great personalities.
Shortly after joining them, I received a call from a director of one of the leading advertising agencies in Dubai to ask for a meeting to discuss a research project; I was scared…
- Oh my God, what shall I do?
- What if he asks X or asks Y?
- What should I answer?
A lot of questions and thoughts came to mind!
Failing was never an option, so I had to figure out how to overcome this.
I decided to make the best of the situation. Consequently, I started to prepare for the meeting, read more about the product, and make a list of potential discussion points during the session.
I also had time to reflect on and evaluate the situation. I believed that I knew more in my field than the director did. Whatever he might ask about marketing research, I was sure I was more knowledgeable, which reinforced my belief and identity to take the lead during that meeting; I felt confident and reassured.
The meeting went exceptionally well; I won the research project, conducted the research, and delivered insightful results.
That was the stepping-stone to many achievements and growth to come. My learning was:
- Prepare, prepare, and then prepare.
- Be ready to research, study, read, and learn.
Nowadays, people have an immense source of information on the Internet and social media, so I started my consultancy and digital media strategy business. With Sterling Marketing Consultancy, I can help companies plan and engage their prospects better and more effectively. However, the integral part is to deliver performance and provide clients with the right return on investment.
Learning is essential for growth and better performance. Maybe during the 1990s, that was difficult or expensive. Still, nowadays, though, we have an open source of information that we can tap into, and it is mcrucial to step up our learning. In addition, we need to improve in different marketing and business strategies to grow.
Working with the team, I learned the Can Do attitude. The owner of the company, Joseph Khoury, taught me the following slogan:

Throughout my career, I added to this the following:
If there is no way, I will create one
I hope that this added a different perspective on what you can achieve when you look at matters differently.
